The Northwest Regional S.W.A,T. Team is a multi-agency team comprised of 21 dedicated
police officers from the Merrillville, Schererville, Dyer, Cedar Lake, Griffith and Crown Point
Police Departments. Officers selected for the S.W.A.T. Team must pass a physical agility test,
90% range qualification, oral interview and the basic S.W.A.T. school. The team is on call 365
days a year.
The Northwest Regional S.W.A.T. Team’s function is to safely resolve critical incidents. They are
called upon to handle barricaded gunmen, hostage situations, violent felony warrants, and drug
search warrants.
Along with the basic S.W.A.T. school, team members attend training with other S.W.A.T. teams.
They have attended schools sponsored by various law enforcement agencies including the FBI,
and retired members of the U.S. Army (DELTA), and British SAS.
